2. Background

I developed this idea based on my interest in nature. I had spend the first half of the semester developing a speculative utopian world where humans and nature were in peaceful co-existence, where modern day issues didn't exist, such as capitalism, techno-centrism, individualistic greed and violence. In this world, humans connected with nature on a deep level, had fulfilling relationships with the land, the animals, and each other. This is my biggest dream. I wish our world were on the path to a healthy, community-based, beautiful future that supported all types of people and was honest and genuine. I also was reading the book “Braiding Sweetgrass” which is about indigenous nature practices. Additionally, I am an Indian, and in our culture, we have a deep relation with land and nature too, and a past of strong community living.

• Indigenous land-relationship practises, inspired by Robin Wall Kimmerer “Braiding Sweetgrass”, 2013
• Ancient desi joint-family and communal living practises
• Studio ghibli animism - animals are wise, nature is alive, environments are sentient and interacting with them leads to ecological balance
• Pixelated, low poly video games and digital experiences, and desi cultural visual language for my aesthetic
